So in preparation, while I sit here months advance studying maps and language books, could you give me some advice on what kind of backpack, sandals (and/or waterproof shoes), pocket knife, water-proof watch, etc I should be purchasing?

(And any other tips on what else I should have with me in case I accidentally lose myself in some random French field, German forest or Greek river, would be very much appreciated.) Strike ‘em matches always struck me as a good idea (no pun intended) to have in my backpack just in case, as well as one of those metallic water canteens, etc. But brand names would be very helpful at this point! Thanks!

Specific garments and brand names are helpful whenever possible. Please try to answer all questions if you can.

      1. How do I keep my head warm and dry while still wearing a helmet? Is it unsafe to put something on underneath my helmet? If so, can I put something on over it? My helmet is vented and has a visor.

      2. Please suggest a waterproof garment for keeping my face and neck dry-ish and warm.

      3. Is there such a thing as waterproof shoes? If so, list brands if possible. If not, suggest how I may keep my feet dry and warm. Brands are helpful.

      4. I am assuming I will also wear a waterproof jacket, waterproof pants (perhaps Gortex, but can you suggest a cheaper-but-still-reliable brand?), and gloves. Specific brand suggestions are helpful.

      5. Suggestions on where I can buy these things for cheaper (I already know I can look on E-bay).

I have no water proof shoes. I only have sneakers and leather boots, which the sellsperson said is water proof and can be worn in the rain. my mom is not really keen on the idea of buying waterproof shoes, since we spent big bucks on my other ski stuff. will wearing my sneakers be a bad idea? or vice versa for the leather boots?
