We are going in a few weeks and we have been before but now our kids are all into the water rides where as they weren’t before. My DH says our good old tennis shoes and socks worked last time and they should be OK this time as well. However, we never had to worry about getting wet before and I really am not looking forward to walking around all day with wet, squishy feet. Also, we are not staying on site so it wouldn’t be feasible for us to go back to the hotel and change. We are especially go to be at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure because we got the 7 day passes and they have the most water rides.

Has anyone worn Crocs or similar shoes with success there? We all have them (except DH!) and I find them not so attractive but very comfy and breathable-not to mention waterproof! Any thoughts?

    I decided to get combat boots after my last week long trip of portaging where I did ALOT of walking in regular hiking shoes/boots and spent most of my time with wet shoes, socks and of course feet. I got the idea from old pictures of rangers and explorers wearing big army looking boots on trails, so I thought that must say something about the reliability of these boots.

    But what I wanted to know is just how waterproof are combats boots? I’m not planning on walking through waist deep rivers or anything but I will be walking though lots of mud and shallow streams. On the event that I do step into a knee deep pond, how well would combat boots hold up in keeping water out? Of course I don’t expect them to be 100% waterproof either, so when wet do they dry fairly quickly? How well overall would combat boots do on a portaging trip?

    ** Also, I’m on a tight budget and combat boots are fairly cheap compared to heavy duty hiking shoes/boots.

      I’m not sure whether buying new ones is the best idea or if I can make my current ones waterproof.

I wear my regular shoes and socks, but sometimes I really want to run through the water not deep, just partially. I tried it out with my regular gear, but my shoes and socks were soaked and wouldnt dry. Im thinking if i can get some waterproof tennis shoes that dry really fast and socks that dry really fast so i can run int he water a little bit and then rest in the sand and wait for my shoes and socks to dry before going home in soaking shoes.

        Do these even exist?

Let me describe myself, i’m 5ft 11in, thin (123 lbs) my style is basically preppy/casual (skinny/slim light blue jeans, colorful/pastel t-shirts, button ups) I tried "boat/deck" shoes, but they were uncomfortable (and socks don’t look good with them). I tried some high tops but found them uncomfortable around my ankles. I like white shoes, preferably cheap (i’m a college student "hint hint" LOL :) but of course, I may try whatever you suggest. I’m not a rugged outdoors-man or anything, but I take nature photography and I need something to wear with a little versatility. It needs to be flexible, comfortable and very high quality. Also important it needs to look good. A lot to ask I know.

          I have been finding lots in terms of boots. Unfortunately I hate boots, I think they are really uncomfortable (not enough flexibility in my foot and ankle) and most of what I have been finding are work boots which are also ugly. Hiking boots not only look like tent covers, but I have heard that they wear down really quickly in pavement.

          I got in an argument with the woman at the shoe store because she told me that there is no such thing as a waterproof all-terrain shoe and I would need to buy a pair of boots. I said that I couldn’t possibly be the only nature enthusiast in the world who dislikes boots.

          Basically I want to be able to wear them about town (without looking dumb) and also not worry about going on trails or muddy terrain to find nice photographs. They don’t have to be fully waterproof, I’m not planning on standing in rivers or anything… but it would be nice to not have my socks get soaked if I walk through a puddle.

          I am willing to spend a fair amount on them, up to 0 if they are good shoes.

          Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
