I want to get my boyfriend a pair of shoes for christmas.. something stylish and is durable and is somewhat waterproof. any suggestions?

I’m planning on drawing on some plain white shoes for a Christmas gift and I was wondering what supplies I should get?Should I get sharpies or some prisma color pens?Will I need some waterproof sealant?If so,should I put it before or after I draw on the shoe?I have no idea how to begin either so some steps to drawing on shoes would really help.Thanks!
